Meet the Teachers day/ Report card day

Dear Parents

I received a number of queries asking when  LH will hold  “meet the teachers day”/”report card day” now that 6 months have gone.

This issued was discussed in April but the reaction from the staff was in the previous years, parents did not show during the designated times and very few bothered to show up at all. Instead of having a special day , parents can meet the teachers at all times .

My personal experience is having a “meet the teachers /report card” day annually is an excellent opportunity for parents to meet all class teachers as well as  fellow parents to interact and check your children progress  . If parents were given decent notices in advance , I am sure they will attend judging by the responses from the recent sports day and fun run events especially if it was held during a Saturday.

I am still hopeful that LH will hold a “meet the teachers /report card “ day may be under a different heading but the intention is to encouraged parents to meet the teachers . My optimism arises from the fact that parents were invited (albeit subtly ) for the 2014 Sports day . This may happen faster than you can imagine.

SPORTS DAY

The sports day on Saturday 28th June and Fun run on 29th June 2014 demonstrated the strong desire for parents to get involved in their children’s non academic events . It was great to see so many parents cheering for their children in a sporting event in Lick Hung . It was  a rather rare event  in LH since the previous occasion   where parents  were invited on Sports day was at least three years ago. I am sure the level of participation would have been greater if parents were notified several weeks ahead and parents were given clear instructions on whether students participation was  conditional upon the participants having to buy the “official T-Shirt” .

Congratulations to everyone who  organized and participated in the events and they certainly deserve a break on Monday 30 June 2014!

While mingling with the parents on the sidelines, I was often asked about the role of PIBG as well as how and where to seek help for new parents . You will be pleased to know that during the last two years,  the parent committee members have been busily setting up class based chat groups. The most common topics for discussions are homework, exams and birthdays!! If anyone wants  to join , please let me know so I can refer you to the respective class contacts.

PIBG SJKC LICK HUNG (PIBG LH) ANNOUNCEMENT

For latest Posts click here

I have recently discovered PIBG LH has several bank accounts where I am not a signatory as required by the Perlembagaan –Peraturan Pendidikan (Persatuan Ibu Bapa –Guru )1998.

I am in the process of investigating this matter as well as seeking advice from our Headmaster. I have also requested the relevant office holders of PIBG LH to prepare the necessary resolutions for the relevant bank to ensure the bank signatories are the designated signatories pursuant to the Perlembagaan.

In the mean time, I recommend parents pay PIBG LH with cheques or get a receipt if you pay by cash whenever possible.

I request parents not to speculate on this nor criticize any of the AJK members whom I believe are all motivated by the same objective ;namely to serve for the benefit of our children . I appeal to all parents to refrain from mounting any unjustifiable criticism against any AJK member personally or collectively. I admire their efforts to take part in PIBG which is an important part of our educational system and hopefully their efforts will not become a thankless task.

I appreciate parents for being vigilant and for bringing to my attention various issues. I take this opportunity to remind parents that PIBG is not a venue to resolve formal educational issues nor policy matters governing the administration of the school. The principal role of PIBG is to assist the school to bring about better benefits/facilities for our children.  The activities which PIBG can undertake are rather limited and bound by legal and administrative constraints   .

I am sure parents do not want to air dirty linen in public when they have an effective channel for communication. We are all living under the same roof so any damaging revelation will hurt everyone even though there was no malice involved. Having assumed the role for less than three months, I will admit that we have a serious trust deficit issue. Trust takes a long time to accumulate but unfortunately, takes very little to destroy. While MH370 is still fresh in our mind, one thing we must take from this tragedy is the need to manage the flow of information quickly and effectively otherwise we will end up having to manage perception rather than the real issue.

My first job will be to rebuild that trust. If everyone can show a little bit of patience, forbearance and restraint, I am confident that all AJK members will work together to achieve the objective of PIBG , namely , for the benefit of our Children .

Thank you very much

The status of this blog

Dear Parents

This blog was set up a year ago to facilitate parents' communication and later turned into an unofficial blog for the 2013 PIBG. The 2014 PIBG committee feels that the blog is no longer necessary as the school has set up an official website. I therefore removed the association of this blog to the Lick Hung PIBG but will still maintain it as a private blog.
